A3090, Romsey, Hampshire – Dual Carriageway Closure and Re-Surfacing

The Brief

Our team was called out to provide emergency surfacing work on the A3090 dual carriageway near Romsey, Hampshire, after Southern Water discovered a leak. The exact location of the leak was unknown, and our role was to support the investigation while maintaining traffic flow and ensuring the road was restored as quickly as possible after each phase of the excavation.

The Challenge

The situation required Southern Water to close one side of the dual carriageway and divert all traffic to the opposite side, transforming it into a temporary two-way system. With just twelve hours’ notice, our team cleared a crossing point in the central reservation, allowing for the traffic switch.

This setup had to remain in place for several weeks as Southern Water worked to find the leak. Throughout this time, our team was responsible for resurfacing and filling each hole created by the ongoing dig, ensuring that the disruption to road users was kept to a minimum.

The Solution

Our team acted swiftly, clearing the central reservation and enabling the safe diversion of traffic. We coordinated closely with Southern Water to ensure every excavation site was resurfaced efficiently. By working continuously, we maintained road safety and traffic flow, all while keeping the A3090 operational. Once the leak was successfully located and repaired, our team completed the resurfacing work, ensuring the dual carriageway could fully reopen without delay.
